Quick Quip...
Fresher Frozen Fish! For those of us who periodically freeze our filleted catch, here's a method of ensuring that your frozen future meals stay as fresh as possible. First of all, fillet your catch and cool down the fillets to the freezing point. Dip them in cold water for a second and take them out. The water will freeze around your fillet. Repeat the dipping process a couple of times until you've developed an 'ice-glaze' on your fish. Then place the fillets in a sealed plastic bag and pop it in the freezer. The ice-glaze will protect your fish, allowing you to keep it much longer than would otherwise be possible without spoilage.
What's New...
- Travel Update: We've re-negotiated the Costa Rican trips to make them less expensive and available from departure locations other than Newark and Albany. There are more spaces available for March and April, so if you want to take a trip to a pristine jungle location, right on the Caribbean coast of Central America and fish for tarpon, snook and rainbow bass in waters that have hardly ever had lures thrown into them, check out the Baula Tours Page.
- Interactive Update: We've been in contact once again with WebTV to find out why some users can't access the TFN Forums & Chat. We contacted them over a month ago and at that time they said they would get back to us with a fix quickly. They never got back to us, period. Hopefully they will this time and give us some way for their users to access this popular part of the TFN site.
We've changed the policy for when we clear out old messages from the Forums. The posts will be kept on-line for 3 weeks now instead of two. The change was made in response to the complaints by some that they had missed some of the action when they went on holidays. Hey, we don't bite, and the interactivity is free, so why not join in the Forum Fun!
And remember that Tuesday Night is Chat Night. But if you can't make it, and want to get together some other time, send an email to our intrepid forumsmaster, Max Huber to get your scheduled event posted for others to read.
- Federation Update: We have uploaded the new discount pages for travel and merchandise. Watch these listings grow! Also, we have noticed that not all of the members have been using their TFN email accounts. Hey, they're there to be used!
- Send in those stories! As I said before, "Ya can't win if ya don't play!". Check out the Hooked on Bass contest and send in your stories to win a free CD ROM filled with bassin' info, video, audio and diagrams from In-Fisherman! And remember - we also have the same contest running for Walleye stories - you could win the Way Of The Walleye CD Rom!
Comment...
Well, things are hopping around here. The Travel Agency has booked a few trips and has about 10 that we're working on. Some additions have been made to the Federation section, and we've been in touch with a few new contributors to add some fresh perspectives and tips to the Web-Zine.
There are a few new projects underway - but like everything, they seem to take longer than they should. First of all, we're researching which way to go with our e-Commerce solution. We should have that up and running by late spring. We're also going to be adding more interactive pages to the TFN Reference & Archive section, and a few of them should be up as early as next week.
A longer-term project will be to create a new Fishing Reports database program - so that you can enter or search for info in your own area. Obviously, the programming for this section will be a bit onerous, so it will take some time to finish planning and then implement. However, it should be on-line by late spring.
As you can tell, we're never just sitting around talking about fishing! (well, almost never)
So, Until next issue...
(tight lines, get it wet, good fishin', see you on the ice, etc., etc.).
