Grease and lube all cables and moving parts with a marine grease, being careful not to overuse. Also grease the tiller handle and all external grease nipples. Check and replace the lower gear oil if needed, paying special attention to the lower magnet which catches metal particles. If the magnet shows signs of an above average amount of metal particles, speak with your dealer. Make sure gaskets go back on the fill and drain holes. This step is sometimes overlooked erroneously. Remove the prop and inspect it for damage such as nicks, or fishing line wrapped around the shaft seal. Fishing line will cut the seal and introduce water into the gear housing, causing all kinds of trouble. This procedure is usually done in the fall when the fishing season is over. Put in fresh fuel, start the engine and spray carborator cleaner into the carbs, cleaning out any gum in the bowls. Check all electrical connections, including the lights, live wells and charging system for corrosion and general disrepair. |
