Reels... The first thing to do, is to strip way all of the old line. Don't be a cheapy, go buy fresh line. Try the new braids, I won't use mono ever again.. (if you want some suggestions, drop me a note) Clean the reel thoroughly with WD-40 or reel oil, making sure to remove all those nasty minnow scales which build up on the handle. Here's where silicone really does come in handy. Spray it inside and outside -- wherever you think it's needed. It's great for reels. Noisy handles will be a thing of the past. This spray also works quite well on the bail -- you'll get a nice, fast snap after an application. Remember to also tighten and repair any missing bolts or worn pieces. A good quality reel should be able to outlast the punishment you give it. |
