NOTE: Image Missing- Not all boat slips will hold crappies for one reason or other, even though docks, boat slips and general structure in a marina will hold crappies. Check the deepest water in the marina, with some sort of structure. you will have to do a little exploring to find which corner the crappies are staged at. One method you might try is to look for any concentration of shore fishermen. Their location could save lots of time locating fish.
- In this area you might find smaller crappies, but my first choice for larger crappies would be the deeper waters of area "A".
- For early and late May fishing, as crappies will stage in the area prior to moving to other locations. (This area can be productive from spring to fall, for morning and evening fishing.)
- This area is similar to area "C". With dead fall hanging into the water, and a small swamp area in the small bay. It can hold crappies all season. Fish the deeper water in early May and the work into the shallower dead fall and swamp areas as the surface water rises above 50°.
- The rivers mouth can be productive all year long, this will depend on the exact structure of this area. Cheque it out, you might find the motherload. ( check out this area in the summer, in the early morning and evening. You might find large schools moving in and out on one-to-two-hour feeding binges.
- This area is similar to area "D" with one main exemption, the deeper water comes very close to the shore . This can turn out to be one of the best locations spring, summer, and fall, especially if there is any structure on the shore line such as docks, boat houses, and dead fall. I also find that if the shore faces north to west it can be more productive because of the shadow cast from the river bank and structure. Another reason to pay attention to this area is that it is linked with the first main staging hole and you will have crappies moving into this area in the deeper water.
Well, now it up to you , to do some exploring on your own.
Next month we will be discussing fishing techniques and equipment that really work for spring fishing,
Rocky.
