Browns run fairly early in the season depending on water conditions. A good, heavy rain after the first frost of the year will normally get them started upstream. These staging fish have a tendency to cruise the shorelines waiting for ideal conditions prior to running upstream and either of these two techniques can be used to get the spawn you need. A good bet to get your spawn for fall would be to troll off of the mouths of streams and rivers that browns will run, before the run actually starts. Troll close to shore using planer boards to get your lures away from the boat and in tight to the shoreline. If you don't have a boat or access to one, try walking the shoreline, casting Cleos and other spoons out into the lake and working them back. Both techniques work and are a good bet to get you fresh brown trout roe for the full swing of the fall run. One thing else Barry, I prefer using skeened eggs over loose roe.
