I can only offer my own experience here. I have been using braided lines for fifteen or twenty years when fishing for muskie and heavy cover fish, and have broken very few rods in that time. However I also use rods that are designed for muskie and heavy cover -- always the right tool for the job. I have never had to replace a guide because of line damage, or had a reel damaged by line. I would recommend using your existing heavy action rod for super lines. it should be able to withstand the punishment of the super lines. However, if a new rod and reel for super line is on your shopping list, then take a look at the specialty rods and decide for yourself. |
