Northern Crappie Views How do you start your first article in a new magazine when most of your readers have never heard of you? Well, I guess the best place to start is to introduce myself, and explain how I got to this position as a writer on the subject of crappies. I was born and raised just north of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. At the age of 12 my parents bought a hotel in Jamaica, which kept me either on, or in the ocean for an average of 6 hours a day. When I was 22, I became a northern bush pilot ( just to fish the north of Canada) and flew for five years. When I realized that there was no money in flying,I went into real estate. I started my house-hustling career in 1974 and worked at it for 19 years, all of which to financially support some serious fishing. In 1987 I met a man who ran a major bass tournament in Canada He gave me some great advice on how to become a better angler: "Don't get good to get into tournaments, get into tournaments to get good". In 1988 I turned pro, fishing Canadian Walleye circuits, and found his advice to be very true. I learned a lot about fishing in a relatively short period of time. In the many years I spent in the north, having hundreds of shore lunches (fried fish, fried potatoes, and beans) my friends started complaining about the indigestion they where experiencing from cooking in lard. So, being the adventurous type, I set out to invent the perfect remedy to this problem. When you deep fry your fish with a batter made with eggs and Cornflakes or cooking flower, you always get oil soaking into the coating. It was an easy process to come up with an alternative. It only took me 15 years, and four high-tech food labs to come up with a recipe that would not only make fish taste great, but be easy to use as well, and, most importantly, repel oil soakage. The product is called "Rocky Madsen's Fish Crisp Seasoned Coating Mix". I have a guaranty on the box that if it doesn't make the best fish or chicken (even if you hate fish) we will refund your money. It's great, see our ad and get some. We are the number one selling coating in the sporting industry in Canada! Well, enough for the advertising. So, I guess my claims to fame are that I am the king of cooking fish in Canada and presently hold the 1995 big crappie record. Now that you know a little about me, lets get down to fishing! |
