Terminal Tackle

Terminal tackle is what we tie on the end of a line in order to catch fish. Live bait, dead bait, artificial lures, leaders, scent products, and sinkers are all examples of terminal tackle.

Terminal tackle must first trigger a reflex or feeding response from a fish. In order to do so, it must appeal to the appropriate senses. Therefore we must consider size, shape, scent, texture, color, flash, and action. The action of a lure is the way in which it moves through water and this action determines the depth at which the lure runs, the speed at which it is the most effective, and the sounds and vibrations it creates.

Once it is determined that a specific rig will entice the fish, our next concern is that it has sufficient hooking power or the ability to hook the intended fish and hold it long enough to be played and landed.
