Quick Quip...
The Manual Depthfinder: Although most anglers now use electronics to mark structure and fish, here's an easy method of determining your fishing depth when the batteries run out. Simply apply a single 1" mark from a magic marker at the 5' length past your rod tip, 2 of them at 10', 3 at 15', and so forth. This way, when your bait hits the bottom, you'll know at what depth you're fishing. Then you can determine if, to the best of your knowledge, your quarry should be down there, or you should move on.

We've been working hard on the community aspect of the site (as follows below) and have also been working on getting some fresh sources of articles for the Zine. Some of the regulars report in in this issue - and in particular we're pleased about the success of the Jersey Coast anglers in putting enough pressure on one of the co-sponsors of a bill designed to re-open the commercial US east coast striped bass fishery, that he withdrew his sponsorship and support.
We've received a couple of Walleye stories for the Way of the Walleye CD, but I know that there are a great number of bassers out there with great stories who haven't sent them in. As I said before, "Ya can't win if ya don't play!". Check out the contest in this Zine issue, and send in your stories to win a free CD ROM filled with bassin' info from In-Fisherman™!

I've been spending a great deal of time recently in putting together the TFN Club Program. (Hey - I said I was serious!). Most of the final touches have been put in place, and I think you'll definitely approve of the program that's been decided upon, and the community endeavours we hope to support.
You may be interested to know that there are well over 3,000 anglers who subscribe to the TFN NewsFlash, and when someone opens a local club, TFN will contact those subscribers in that area on the club's behalf, and let them know about the startup.
Of course, that means that TFN is now looking for a few good people to help us get some local clubs off the ground. The program will be officially launched next month, but if you email me with your interest, I'll send you back the web address of the beta website as soon as it is set up.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Until next issue...
(tight lines, get it wet, good fishin', see you on the water, etc., etc.).
