I've become very disappointed with some of the garbage that's being passed off by a few Internet based companies and electronic magazines...
In order for this incredible medium to work for the benefit of all, someone, somewhere has to pay for it, and here at TFN, we've taken the position that it should be advertisers rather than visitors. In fact, Paradigm Management Group, our parent company, has invested a great deal of time and research in developing the TFN concept, not to mention the site, itself, and wants to ensure that "anglers everywhere" will always be able to visit for free. In order to reach this goal and get advertisers on side, they must know what they're buying -- i.e. who visits and how many.
It has been recently brought to our attention by a number of potential advertisers that some either unscrupulous or just plain ignorant competitors in the fishing and outdoors area are over-stating their "number of hits" per month. Some are even in the ridiculous range of millions and tens of millions.
Now, most netsurfers are aware that there are somewhere between 40 and 60 million total users of the net, so the companies and individuals making these outrageous claims are teeling us that as many as 1 in every 5 of all users, worldwide, are visiting their site every month. Hey, that would be great, but we all know it just ain't so.
At TFN, we're proud of the fact that in January we had over 5,000 individual visitors. How do we know this? Well, because when each of you visits TFN, you arrive at one specific file, our Home Page (Main Menu). If, in your travels, you choose to go back to the Home Page, either your browser has already cached it so that a new hit does not occur, or TFN takes you back to a different page that's identical to the Home Page. Either way, your visit is only logged as one hit. How many other sites are so attentive to their access statistics?
Our experience with major advertisers and their agencies has alerted us to the problem that because some internet information providers are unscrupulously throwing around ridiculous statistics, they are negatively affecting the image of the industry as a whole, and the efforts of those of us who are merely trying to make an honest, legitimate (if not "quick") buck. The Net is here to stay, and the best way to be a part of it , as is the case with most business, is to give you, the user, the information and services you want, while providing the advertiser with a win-win scenario where equitable value is received for funds spent.
So, if you are one of the dishonourable few screwing it up for the rest of us, think again about what you're doing. Not only are you losing credibility (which will greatly affect your future), you're also causing unnecessary aggravation for those of us who treat this business professionally, and that will only come back to haunt you.
The people involved already know who they are. We are compiling a list of complaints, and, if necessary, will investigate these ridiculous claims ourselves and publish our findings for all to see.
C'mon guys, get it Together!
