Safety Equipment...

Check the date on all flares and replace them if they're old or if moisture has gotten into them.

Check all signaling devices such as horns, whistles, and radios to make sure the're in proper working order.

Make sure that the bailing bucket or pump is in working order.

Check to ensure that all Personal Floatation Devices (PFD's) are in good condition, and still fit growing children. Put a waterproof whistle in each PFD.

Paddles and oars should be in good working condition, without cracks or dry rot.

Keep a repair kit onboard, with extra sparkplugs, tape, fuses, tools and whatever else you think you might need.

Check to make sure that the first aid kit is complete and still in good condition.

Carry a prop wrench in the boat. If fishing line or a fish net gets caught in there, you'll be able to take care of it right on the spot.

Hopefully these tips will help you prepare your equipment and boat for a safe, fun filled fishing season. And remember to take a kid fishing, because when kids are fishing they are away from drugs, gangs and crime.
