A Fish For All Lures

Sub-Surface lures (casting)

A free-swimming vibrating crank bait such as the Cordell Spot sinks at approximately one foot per second, so if you wish to fish it at an eightfoot depth just cast it out and count it down eight seconds before beginning your retrieve. Begin your retrieve at different counts until you find the right depth. You will have to experiment with speed of retrieve (fast in warm water, slow in cold), size of lure (small in spring, large in fall), habitat (open water, heavy cover), size of line (lures dive deeper with lighter line), and lure color (water color, forage). The retrieve for the spinner bait is limited only by your imagination. It can be fished fast or slow, shallow or deep, using a steady retrieve or a stop-and-go method, or maybe a yo-yo pumping action or any combination of these and more. Be versatile and experiment!
