Quick Quip...Why Crankbaits Wobble: The main reason for the wobbling action imparted by crankbaits is due to the work of Lauri Rapala, the originator of the baits that bear his last name. He noticed over 50 years ago that when confronted with a school of baitfish, trout will always attack the wounded and sick first, and that these fish swim in an erratic fashion. He developed his baits to imitate this action, and their success led everyone else to copy the idea. What's New...Although it sometimes seems that the wheels at TFN move slowly, we are furiously at work on a few projects to be released soon - and we think you'll be pleasantly surprised! Comment...I recently had a bit of a run-in with an anti-fishing/hunting type from the U.S. (I'll call him "Anti" in order to not use his real name), and thought I might share our brief email discussion with you: From "Anti" IN YOUR WHO WE ARE PAGE YOU TALK ABOUT HUNTING AS BEING A SAFE SPORT HOW SAFE IS IT FOR A POOR LITTLE ANIMAL TO GET SHOT
IS THAT A SPORT YOU HIDE IN TREES AND SHOT A DEFENSELESS ANIMAL WITH A GUN SO CAN CAN HANG ITS HEAD ON YOUR WALL
THAT DOESNT BOTHER YOU AT ALL
AM A VEGAN BUT I STILL CAN SEE A LITTLE BIT KILLING FOR FOOD BUT KILLING A ANIMAL SO YOU AND YOU DRUNK HILLBILLY FRIENDS CAN LOOK AT ITS HEAD ON THE WALL
THERE IS REALLY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THAT
To "Anti": First of all, TFN is a fishing site, not a hunting site, and what you may have been looking at was a page sponsored by one of the conservation organizations for which we provide free space.
Secondly, of the hunters here in Ontario, Canada, 90% hunt for food, not simply for sport.
Thirdly, TFN is a family site, and there is no reference (other than humorous) to alcohol on any of the 4,000 pages included.
Fourth, there are no "hillbillies" in Canada - where we're from, and
Finally, I suggest that when you write to commercial organizations and media outlets, you check your facts first, and either invest in a spelling/grammar checker, or have someone else with a better command of the language translate on your behalf.
Sincerely,
Scott M. Binnie, Managing Director, TFN - The Fishing Network
From "Anti" Oh why don`t you go kill an animal and leave me alone you pr**k
Now, I'm sure that "Anti" is not a typical representative of those whose goal it is to ban hunting and fishing, and admit that I can be somewhat caustic from time to time. However I was consoled by the fact that although there are those who demean the reputation of all anglers by mistreating the stewardship and conservation of our environment and quarry with reckless abandon, there also seems to be an equivalent group working on behalf of antis everywhere! Until next issue... (tight lines, get it wet, good fishin', see you on the water, etc., etc.).
