Quick Quip...

Winter Weedlines So, you look out across the ice and say to your fishing buddy "Where do we start?". The answer, may friend isn't blowin' in the wind, it's where you left off in the summer. Deep weedbeds sprout vegetation all year long, and this is one of the prime areas for panfish and other forage to try and hide under the ice. So get out your GPS, and locate those deep weed-lines. You may be surprised who you find lurking down there!

What's New...

The TFN Fishing Ring is making great strides, with a site or two being added every day! If you have a fishing page on the WWW and haven't applied to join it yet, make sure you do!

We've just about put the new TB2 (Trophy Bass 2) program into place, and we've found someone to look after it. However, we need a couple of volunteers to help out once or twice each week to help oversee on-line events. If you're interested, make sure you let us know by emailing us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

We've added a new feature to many of the Web-zine articles. Beginning with this issue, you'll be able to go directly to the TFN Forums to post a comment or question about the article you're reading. We've even posted a starting comment for each article in the appropriate forum.

Speaking of Forums, we've added a few to the mix. To begin with there's now a Conservation Forum to accept your comments and questions on matters of - guess what - conservation issues. We've also added a Travel Forum for notes about specific trips, and a Forum called Hooked For Life...

...which brings me to our other new item (nice segue, eh?). We're pleased to announce a new relationship with the folks at Hooked For Life and The Reel Kids Fishing Club. Starting with this issue, they'll be providing TFN with some great Web-zine articles for kids, including some neat activity-related material. Check It Out!

This Issue...

In Volume 3, Issue 5, we're introducing another new regular feature, 'TFN Destinations', featuring articles written about some of the better fishing resorts, camps, guides and charter services around. Also, and of particular importance, is an article that was submitted by one of our readers on a different point of view about Catch and Release fishing. I won't comment on it here, but I may meet up with you in the new Conservation Forum about the ideas expressed.
