TFN Reciprocal Link Exchange

We have just launched a new section to the site - Fishing Links.

The key to this system is that it is an exchange. That is, in order for your link to appear here, our link must exist on your site. (Hey, it's only fair!)

Once you have become a registered user of TFN, simply go to the Fishing Links page and click on "Add and Exchange Links" at the top of the page to get the code for our link, and register your fishing-related website on our system.

I an my pardner just got back from Lake Matios with Aztec Lakes Bass Fishing. We averaged over 100 fish a day up to 8 pounds, with many 4 to 6 pounds. After we got back I was told that if we had fished our spinner baits deeper with a 12 inch worm attached we would have caught Bass in the 10 -18 pound class. What do you think?{jomcomment}

I'm pleased to announce that a new program has been added to TFN to enable visually impaired visitors "hear" the site. This new technology from vozme.com is still in its infancy, but the early results are promising.

The service is not yet available across the whole site, but it has been installed for all of the articles.

Although it takes a bit of time to get used to the voice and diction provided by the program, after a couple of seconds the article is fairly easy t [...]

We've just uploaded a new survey to the site to find out what kind of interest is out there for TFN to provide discounts on fishing products and travel to our registered users. We used to have a part of the site called the TFN Federation - where our users could donate a small annual fee ($15) to become a member.

Members would receive a crest and vehicle sticker and a portion of all proceeds was to be used for local conservation efforts. Unfortunately, only a few chose to join, so there [...]

Quick Quip...

The Ultimate Freshness Test Here's an old wives' tale that, as do most, has a ring of truth about it. If you are unsure whether or not the fish you're about to cook is fresh, simply put it in water. If it sinks, it's fresh. If it floats, don't eat it. Now I wonder how this pertains to flying fish?

What's New...

TFN Adds Another New Section: As I wrote a few issues ago, We're busy at work here at TFN to make sure tha [...]

Quick Quip...

Haul or Hang Back With all the new advances in fishing rods, reels, terminal tackle and particularly the new lines, we often forget one of the basics of successful angling: bringing in a fish should not be a tug-of-war (a point driven home to me once again last summer when a muskie straightened out my snap-swivel). The new hi-tech lines and stiff, fast-action rods do not give nearly as much 'play' as older tackle did. All the more reason to remember that when the [...]

Quick Quip...

Fresher Frozen Fish! For those of us who periodically freeze our filleted catch, here's a method of ensuring that your frozen future meals stay as fresh as possible. First of all, fillet your catch and cool down the fillets to the freezing point. Dip them in cold water for a second and take them out. The water will freeze around your fillet. Repeat the dipping process a couple of times until you've developed an 'ice-glaze' on your fish. Then place th [...]

Quick Quip...

Anything for a buck! Although not every angler fishes with a ruler or tape measure to determine the size of the days best catches, most do carry a wallet (a handy place to keep your license!). If you're rich enough to have a few bills in your wallet the next time you're fishing, you can take one out and measure your fish with it. Each bill is 6 inches long. Now, being from Canada, I wonder if that means that our bills are only 4 ½ inches in length? If [...]

Quick Quip...

What's in a name? The rainbow trout, brown trout and Atlantic salmon are really only the true trouts. Brook trout, speckles trout and lake trout are actually members of the char family. Makes you wonder.

What's New...

New Fishing Travel Agency: Last week TFN finally broke into the 'e-commerce' market by launching the TFN Travel Network, our very own travel agency.
Quick Quip...

Going on a Fall Fishing Trip? Many anglers go on an angling excursion each fall in search of the 'big ones'. Make sure that if you're going out of province, state or country, that you get a copy of the local fishing regulations. Catch and Release laws, size and possession limits, and even the tackle you are allowed to use may be different than what you're accustomed to.

What's New...

After much gnashing of teeth, TFN is ple [...]

Quick Quip...

Not All Breaks Are Under Water Most anglers are well aware of the many structure breaks that occus beneath the waves - separating depth, weedlines, bottom make-up, etc., but few are aware of the easiest to read which occur within easy eyesight. Breaks can also be evident on the surface if you watch for shadow lines, edges of patches of floating debris, current breaks and wind breaks. Any of these types of 'visible' structure can often hold the most aggressiv [...]

Quick Quip...

The Manual Depthfinder: Although most anglers now use electronics to mark structure and fish, here's an easy method of determining your fishing depth when the batteries run out. Simply apply a single 1" mark from a magic marker at the 5' length past your rod tip, 2 of them at 10', 3 at 15', and so forth. This way, when your bait hits the bottom, you'll know at what depth you're fishing. Then you can determine if, to the best of your know [...]

Quick Quip...

Eat Healthy - Eat Fish!: Scientists believe that eating a half-pound of fish each acts as a possible means of preventing heart disease. Therefore, it follows that in order to live longer, we abslutely MUST fish more often - for the sake of our health.
Quick Quip...

Old Smallies: Although one would think that because smallmouth bass can reach a size of 10 - 12 lbs that they are a long living fish. In fact, it is actually uncommon for a smallies to live beyond 7 years of age. So if you catch a big one, make sure you put it back. The bigger females lay the most eggs, and the one on the end of your hook may have only one or two spawning years left!

What's New...

In our continuing goal to make TFN interac [...]

Quick Quip...

Sometimes Smaller IS Better: Often you hear anglers using that old saying that "You have to use big baits to catch big fish". Well, that is not always correct - and particularly in the spring. At this time of year, much of the forage for most of the bigger predators is the recently hatched fry - even of their own species. Therefore, you may well find that your smaller crankbaits will be those that produce BIG fish!

What's New...

No [...]
